Description

Mid Century Headboards

Stunning highly figured Brazilian Lacewood mid century headboards by Vesper. Two metal bars and screws for the frame are included.

Manufactured by Vesper. The unit features the CC41 stamp to the rear.

Part of the Utility CC41 furniture scheme. Introduced by the British government and headed by Sir Gordon Russell, the scheme was designed to cope with shortages of raw materials and rationing of consumption during World War II.

The aim was to ensure the production of strong, well-designed furniture making the most efficient use of limited timber. The designs were largely in the tradition of the Arts and Crafts movement and were simplistic with a lack of ornamentation, entirely contrary to the popular taste of the immediate pre-war period.

The Utility Furniture Scheme continued into post-war austerity and lasted until 1952, ten years after its introduction in 1942.

British, circa 1950.

Dimensions (cm):

102 H x 122 W x 209 D

Condition

The headboards are in good vintage condition. Signs of use can be found.
